Trend Alert: Multi-Strand Necklaces

I know they were in over the summer, but I’m seeing them now more than ever. I’m speaking of multi-strand necklaces– the necklaces made with many chains stemming from one main chain. This trend has gone so far as to stick itself onto shirts and dresses, sometimes being painted on. I myself don’t own one of these necklaces, but I have seen countless versions of them in stores and magazines.

Why are these so trendy? Well, first off, they are reminiscent of Serena van der Woodsen’s necklace in Gossip Girl. Everyone knows what a fashionable show that is, but it really set this trend off. Also, they are sophisticated while still being fun. I would rate them AA: Suitable for All Ages. They draw attention to the chest without being too showy, and they are extremely versatile.

Trend Alert: ’20s Making a Comeback?

If you couldn’t tell by the sheer number of flapper costumes at Halloween, the 1920′s style is definitely easing its way back into modern day fashion. For instance, flipping through the October 2009 Nordstrom catalog, I found multiple flapper-esque dresses, all of which are on my list of things I would buy if I had the money. The boyish silhouette and dark hues (although I’m sure they come in brighter colors, I do love the black) are flattering on any body type, making these dresses an instantaneous hit…about 8 decades later.

Now where would one wear a fring-ey or tiered black dress like the ones I am seeing more and more of? Probably to a cocktail party. They are a bit too much for work or school and not dressy enough for a formal evening event, but worn correctly could make the perfect statement at your upcoming dinner party.

My advice? Let the character of the garment do the talking. No need for lavish accessories (other than maybe a few long strands of pearls) or bold tights–these dresses can hold their own. Contemplating wearing a feather headband? I say leave it. You don’t want to be overly flapper-ish–it’s not a costume party. If you are going for more of a ’20s feel, why not wear red lipstick? A personal favorite of mine, it will add to the look just what you’re going for–a blast from the past without being too costume-y.

Hello, all.

Boot weather is here, and instead of thigh-high superhero bootes, I’m after another trend: booties. No, not baby booties–fashion booties. And yet as I scour the racks of Nordstrom, Dillards, even venturing into Macy’s territory, I cannot seem to find the pair I want.

I created them in my mind. They are black suede, hit just below the ankle, and are nothing more than that. Round toe, simple. And I have found one pair on Zappos, but they have a 3 inch rise. Being a tall girl, I simply can’t wear tall heels without towering over anyone I wish to speak to.

So the search is on. I will keep you updated with finding and (possibly) purchases.
